This exclusive collaboration with Borgo Scopeto will allow you to discover an immersive vacation in the Tuscan countryside!
Borgo Scopeto Wine & Country Relais is a charming medieval village in the Tuscan countryside with a history dating back to the year 1000. Its name derives from the abundant presence of broom heath in the area, from which brooms were made.
History
Born as a fortified settlement built by the city of Siena as a defense against potential sieges, it was conquered by Florence during the wars between the two cities. Florence contemptuously erected a Marzocco, a symbol of popular power, which still stands in the main garden today.
From the 14th to the 19th century, it was owned by the Sozzini family, a noble Sienese dynasty of reformists, who transformed it into a castle.
Over time, other complexes were added to the main tower, including the manor house, stables, farmers' houses, a chapel, and a cellar, transforming the property into a veritable village and a thriving farm, dedicated to growing grapes and olives.
Around the 17th century, a garden, known as Roccolo, was created for the noble art of falcon training. Still standing today, it has become a mystical, almost sacred place of unique peace and beauty.
Borgo Scopeto Today
A New Life
The area's strong agricultural vocation led Elisabetta Gnudi-Angelini, the Lady of Sangiovese, to purchase the hamlet in the 1990s.
Through careful and meticulous renovations, she restored the complex to its former splendor, transforming it into a luxury hotel. The estate, located just a few kilometers from the hamlet, is a flagship of the Italian winemaking scene, boasting the production of highly prized wine and olive oil.
